4858 at Orange
Brad Peadon over at his railway blog has just started to post complete list of the 165 locos in the 48 class and their current status. You’ll find Part 1 of that list here.
Brad has also started to post a few of his many photos of the class and I jokingly suggested that he and I make this weekend a 48othon weekend so here’s my first offering.
Â
It’s 4858 on Number 86 passenger – the early morning train from Orange to Lithgow. Here we see it just south of Ash Street and just a few kilometres into its journey. Even though No 86 was never more than two or maybe three carriages I don’t remember seeing many 48s on it during the short time that it ran.
For some odd reason I wasn’t putting dates on my photos at this time but it was probably taken sometime in 1989.

Stuart, some wonderful 48 class stuff. Great to see them getting the credit they so well deserve.
Missed the weekend 48othon, but am making up for it now
Long live the little ALCos.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to post as many as I wanted to either. The cricket got a bit too exciting and then the power went out for 4 hours.
Oh well, that gave me an excuse to clean up the garage a bit while the car’s stuck down at the mechanic’s with a dud computer. At least I did manage to find some stuff I haven’t seen since we moved up from Tassie

Hi Stuart,
Lots of things competing for time always
Just noticed, of all you 48 class shots, this is the only one that is now scrapped (although we don’t know the second unit in the B&W shot).
Perhaps during February we should both have a 45 Weekothon

Yep – a 45 weekathon next month sounds good – I reckon about three posts and I’ll have used up all my 45 class photos
