48139 at Raglan

Here is another 48 class in the weekend’s 48athon that’s running between here and Brad Peadon’s blog that you’ll find here. This time we have 48139 coming up the hill from Kelso with a shunting trip for the Uncle Ben’s Factory at Raglan.

The date was 14 June 1986 and the loco was wearing the candy scheme that was current at that time. 48139 entered service in September 1969 and is still in service and is currently owned by Pacific National.

Never appreciated the 48 class in candy until more recent times.
Probably wont appreciate the current blue livery until it is almost deceased as well :-)
    Ahhhhhhhhhhhh so typically railfan :-)

    G’day Brad

I’ve always thought that the 48s looked good in just about all the NSW various colour schemes they’ve warn over the years. Tuscan of course was classic, candy was good, even the red terror and the blue were/are good and the 125 years and bicentennial schemes were great.

I wasn’t a big fan of the reverse scheme but it’s grown on me. I’m afraid I really can’t handle the current Silverton scheme on any loco – not just the 48s – and the mustard pot didn’t do much for me either.

Interestingly I love both the 125th anniversary livery and the Silverton livery.
Didn’t mind the Mustard Pot, but the AN green certainly didn’t do much for me.
Think the C class looked particularly spectacular in the Silverton livery. Yet, and I don’t say this often regarding EMD type products, just about anything looks good on a C class :-)
