The Last Time I Was in Newcastle Part 1
… and I had my camera with me …
… and there was a train around …
I went to Hexham and found:

5262 waiting in the exchange sidings to depart south with a string of non-air private hoppers. Sitting in front of the loco is a CHG guards van.
The date was 23 October 1972 and the camera was a Praktica L. The photo was taken from the footbridge at the northern end of the platform.

What can I say. Truly awesome stuff there mate.
It dosen’t take a rocket scientist to work out that I have a thing for older (newer for that matter) Hunter coal trains and these shots really fit the bill.
While at Hexham you didn’t manage to get some RVR type stuff did you? I notive the right angle crossing is visible in at least one of the shots.
Thanks for sharing!

G’day Brad
I’m not sure that is the crossing - it might have been where the crossing was but I think it had been removed by October 1972.
What makes me think that it was gone by the time I took that photo is that the signals that do appear in the photo aren’t there to control that crossing. When you look back the other way the only signals you can see are there to control the entrance/exit from the exchange sidings.
And yes, I do have a photo of one of the Kitson’s for the last post in the series. I would have made it by now but work (and cricket) have got in the way.
