The Railway Line at Weipa

Perhaps the most remote railway line in Australia is the Comalco line at Weipa on Cape York Pennisula. The line is only 19.5km in length but it’s used to haul some heavy loads of bauxite … and other things too.

Unfortunately photos of the line are a little rare but here are two photos taken earlier this year  around 2000 – 2001 (see comments below) that I came across on Flickr

    Hi,

    Just to let you know that I actually had taken the pictures around 2000 – 2001 whilst I was working up there for the Cat Dealer. I have changed the date on the pictures to clear up any confusion.

    I’m pretty sure I have a heap of pics of the Weipa locos in hard copy somewhere if you want a copy and I get time I will scan them for you. Send me a pm. Around 1993 to 1996.
