Krause H Class 0-4-0

Over on the AusNarrowGauge group on Yahoo they’re discussing the possibility of producing a model of the Tasmanian H Class – a Krause 0-4-0 locomotive that was used on the 2’6″ 2 foot gauge line heading into the rough country behind Zeehan on the west coast.

Some are wondering if there would be enough interest in the locomotive to produce both a 7mm and a 1:48 kit and but there does seem to be enough interest to produce it in at least one of the scales.

A kit of this locomotive would definitely be hard to resist :)

    Good day to you,

it`s nice to find out, how far some of the German exports went, or how they were constructed all over the world after the Krauss patents.
Sure, I would be interested in a superstructure only, ´cause I am into On3. So I could not have use of the wheels and such.
Any chance of getting to know the price of such one?
Hopefully, you`ll get lots of orders for your fine idea.
    Greetings from Germany,

    Rainer.

    G’day Rainer

Thanks for stopping by. A number of Krause locomotives made it to Australia and worked all over the continent.

Other German manufacturers had their products out here too including Hagans, Henschel and Orenstein & Koppel.

Unfortunately I can’t help you with a price on the proposed kit – I think someone on the Ausnarrowgauge list did ask for a ballpark figure but none was forthcoming.

As we have several still running about in parks all over the US of A I would be interested in one in On30 to match my Bachmann

    Hello

The model Company, through Bergs Hobbies, Sydney produced a 0-4-0T Krauss, based on the Burrinjuck Tramway examples. Kit was whitemetal and brass, and retailed for $450AUD from memory.

    Regards

    G’day Hank and David

    Thanks for dropping by.

David after posting the archive photo it suddenly dawned on me that I do have a photo of a Burrinjuck Krause that I took myself. At one stage back in the late 70′s it was plinthed outside the old NSW Rail Transport Museum’s site in the No. 3 roundhouse at Enfield.

I’ll have to find it a put it up.

an O9/On18 version would be VERY cool ! The Gn15

    Hello Everybody,

The tracks that the Krauss locos ran on were 2 foot gauge, for example the North East Dundas Tramway and the Mount Farrell Tramway.

The O Scale 6-ton Krauss is now available from Inscale Models. Details on the website and from inscale@iinet.net.au . A full etched brass kit is available for 16.5mm track. A Ready to Run model is available for 12mm, 14mm or 16.5mm track.
