In his book on the NSW 59 Class steam loco Harry Wright mentions that some housewives who lived along the northern line between Strathfield and Hornsby complained about the mess the 59s were making of their washing.

I wonder what they would have thought of some of these British diesels. Just about any diesel engine will produce an exhaust when you throttle up from an idle but some of the locos in this video would put a steam loco to shame.

It’s running today in the Horn of Africa and if you’ve got the time here’s a video that runs for around an hour that will take you there to see the narrow gauge steam locomotives in operation.

Gary Gresham from the On30 Conspiracy group was at the World’s Greatest Hobby Show in Louisville last weekend and caught a couple of nice On30 layouts on film.

One of them was the Bachmann display layout.

At last … gasp … gasp … I’ve dug myself out from under the mountain of work clients have been dropping on us and I can spend a few moments posting here.

The video starts with a an XPlorer set working through Emerald Hill and ends with double 82s on a loaded coal train from Gunnedah Colliery

I love the sound of a GM diesel

I’ve read about the 14 Class diesels with a lot of interest but, living in Queensland means that it’s unlikely I’ll see one this side of Christmas. However, while wandering around YouTube this morning I came across this movie of one tackling Cowan Bank.

All I can say is, why isn’t the Environmental Protection Agency all over these locos. If you dared drive a truck with an exhaust like that down the highway you wouldn’t get very far before you were pulled over and issued with a fine for pollution.
