I hope that this article draws out other modellers interested in the Commonwealth Railways narrow gauge lines.

S-scale does have a good following over here in the west. I am a member of AMRA and our S-scale special interest group regularly has 35-40 members at our monthly meetings. In addition there a number of people who live in the bush that also model in S-scale.

Queensland also has a number of S-scalers also however, I understand that HO3.5 is very popular as a means of modelling the local prototype.

Members from the WA & Qld produce a quarterly magazine S-scale magazine "Australian Sn Modeller". The magazine does not have a web site, however the editor Bill Gray can be contacted at ASNMediator@gmail.com

In South Australia I understand that most narrow gauge modelling is carried out using HOn3. This has the advantage of modelling the broad and narrow gauge in the same scale.

I am not sure what happens in Tasmania however I have read of modellers using 4mm/ft [OO] scale and S-scale.

Finally, our NZ friends across the ditch model their local prototype using both S-scale and 9mm scale.

G'day Huggies

You know I looked at that satellite image for ages and couldn't decide whether I was seeing a loco or not :)

Is the turn off the highway into Owanyilla up near the pineapple plantation/roadside stall?

The satellite is actually showing the train being loaded. Always use to stop there on a Sunday to see what locos were being used on the train. Go for a walk and get locomotive photos. Also a goat farm is located just to the north where one could get a photo of the train entering the main line.

I'm pretty sure I have a heap of pics of the Weipa locos in hard copy somewhere if you want a copy and I get time I will scan them for you. Send me a pm. Around 1993 to 1996.

Graham thanks for sharing your photos - you were obviously shooting with a much better camera than I had at the time :)

Just a slight correction - the locomotive with the damaged cylinder is a C32, not a 30T. The distinguishing factors (other than it being a much larger locomotive) are, amongst other things, the Thow porthole cab, the high pitched boiler, angled running plates and the sandbox, unique to the 32.
